Meet The Team

Our Organisation

BLUE SHIELD Scientific non-profit association. The objectives of the association are respect for protection and safeguarding of cultural heritage and cultural assets in case of major catastrophes, menaces to the state’s interior security and armed conflict, while acting within an ethical and professional framework, within the framework of the Law and international accords, as well as awareness raising on a national and international level on the type of risks that endanger cultural heritage. The Hellenic National Committee of the Blue Shield was established in 2020. The committee is part of a global network supervised by the Association of National Committees of the Blue Shield (ANCBS), established in 2008 and based in The Hague. The symbol of the Blue Shield was established as an emblem for the protection of historic sites in the event of war operations and is the cultural equivalent of the Red Cross. The statutory objectives of the Blue Shield Hellenic National Committee correspond to the global demand for action in order to develop and coordinate knowledge and measures, wherever possible, which prevent or mitigate damage before it can occur. The founding members of the Committee are prominent experts from various disciplines, who are already involved in actions aiming at raising awareness, educating and building capacities in terms of risk mapping and prevention, as well as disaster management.
